A Warm Welcome for Families with Additional Needs at our Scottish Farm Experience Attraction

If you're looking for a down-to-earth and peaceful farm experience in the Scottish Borders that's also accessible and welcoming to families with additional needs, Jacksons at Jedburgh is just that. We understand that every child or relative with additional needs is unique, and we're committed to making their visit as easy and enjoyable as we possibly can.

QUIET TIMES
Our quiet times are between 2.30 pm and 5 pm, but we're open throughout the day (10am-5pm) for those who want to explore the farm and meet our friendly animals. From petting sheep to feeding chickens, there's plenty to see and do on the farm.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You can expect: farm smells, varying weather and general farm noise such as vehicles moving around. However, we pride ourselves on having a peaceful and secure visitor area that allows parents to feel relaxed, knowing that they can see their children at all times.

AUTISM

With two Autistic children ourselves not only do we understand how much needs can vary from one ASD child to another but also understand the impacts this can have on a family. If you or your family member need any information pre visit then please do get in touch. At peak times of the year such as lambing time the farm can get busy, if you would like a quiet slot to accommodate any sensory or social difficulties then please do let us know. If your child or relative has a special interest that will help them warm to us and the farm then this is also great for us to know.

TRAVELLING WITH A WHEELCHAIR

Some of the farm experience is difficult to navigate by wheelchair, the natural and uneven ground of the farm will make it a challenge. We have seen wheelchair users access all of the experience though so it’s not impossible!

ALLERGIES
We cannot guarantee that there will not be things on the farm that could cause allergic reactions. The nature of animal feed and bedding makes it difficult to state the exact contents. If you are at all concerned about an allergy then please contact us prior to your visit.

EXTREME OR CHALLENGING BEHAVIOUR

We understand that it is a reality for many families that they have to deal with children or adults who don’t act the way others expect or can be unpredictable. You can count on our staff being understanding and if you need to move your booked visit to another date due to a tricky time at home then we will do this for you without question. It is important that we keep our animals safe and cared for and we hope we can work together to ensure this happens at the same time as your family being able to relax despite the challenges you face.

ASN DAYS - NEW THIS SUMMER

This summer - 2023 - we will be reintroducing our popular ASN Mondays from 2021. These days will be held in the summer holidays and are exclusively for families with children or relatives with additional needs. You will NOT be asked for proof of additional need but any information you can give us that can help us support you is welcomed.
YES - ADHD is an additional need. ADHD is often stigmatised, having ADHD can be wonderful but also hard work for the ADHDer and those around them. Adhder’s are welcome to our ASN days.
